Dobro Model 37 , 1935

This vintage 1935 Dobro Model 37 round-neck, bearing the serial number 6XXX, is a prime example of pre-war American resonator craftsmanship from the classic National-Dobro era. Built in a traditional grand concert body size, this instrument features a laminated mahogany and birch-veneer body finished in a rich, dark sunburst. The premium aesthetic of the Model 37 is immediately recognizable by its fully bound top and back edges, which elevate it above the simpler Model 27 of the same period. At the heart of its acoustic design is the signature single-cone resonator system equipped with a spider bridge and a classic fan-style coverplate, supported by screened soundholes on the upper bouts and small soundholes beneath the fingerboard extension.

As a highly desirable round-neck variant, this instrument is designed for traditional Spanish-style fretting and bottleneck slide play, offering a comfortable, radiused mahogany neck that joins the body at the 12th fret. The neck is capped with a bound ebonized fingerboard featuring pearloid dot inlay markers. True to its 1935 production date, the headstock features a classic slotted peghead, a signature feature before the transition to solid headstocks later in the decade. This specific combination of the round-neck profile and the wood-body resonator construction delivers a beautifully balanced tone—combining the distinct, sharp nasal honk of a spider-bridge cone with the warm, woody resonance that blues and roots musicians highly prize.
